Kamakura Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Terada Mayumi work. Terada’s photographs are created by photographing miniature model rooms and their windowsills with natural light, which the artist creates herself. She says, “I work with the intention of sculpting light like a sculptor carves marble.” As she says, natural light shines into these miniature spaces cut out of memory, just as it does in real life, and together with their shadows and shadows, there exists a mysterious and soft space in which reality and fiction are interwoven with each other. The artist calls this “presence of absence” and it has become the axis of his continuous pursuit of creation.
There are currently five sub-titled series in this existence of absence. Doll House 2001–2004, Choosing Scenery 2004–2008, The Invisible Boundary 2008–2011, Green House 2012–2015, Another Angle 2016–2020. In this exhibition, we will exhibit about 30 works from each series, including miniature sculptures. Terada says, “I think time is also something that matures memories”, and each series is organized along a time axis. We would be happy if you could feel and share the lonely and gentle breeze swaying through her works. Please come and see this second solo exhibition at Kamakura Gallery after 4 years.

この度、鎌倉画廊では寺田真由美の個展を開催いたします。寺田真由美の写真作品は、作家自らが制作するミニチュア模型の部屋やその窓辺などを自然光で撮影する手法で制作されます。「彫刻家が大理石を彫るように、光を彫刻するつもりで制作している」と作家本人が語るように、記憶から切り出されたミニチュアの空間にも、実際と同様に自然光が射し込み、陰影とともにそこには現実と虚構が織り交ぜられた不思議で柔らかな空間が存在しています。作家はこれを「不在という存在」と呼び、継続的に探求する制作の軸となってきました。
この「不在という存在」には、現在5つのサブタイトルによるシリーズがあります。ドールハウス 2001–2004 年、風景の選択 2004–2008年、見えない涯 2008–2011年、温湿 2012–2015、天視 2016–2020年制作。今展はそれぞれのシリーズからおよそ30点を選び、ミニチュアの立体も混じえてシリーズごとに展示致します。「時間は記憶を熟成させるものでもあると思う」とも述べる寺田の作品シリーズごと、時間軸に沿っての展示構成となっております。作品の中に揺れる寂しげで優しい風を感じ、分かち合っていただければ幸いです。鎌倉画廊では4年ぶり、2回目となる個展を是非ご高覧ください。
東京生まれ。1989年筑波大学大学院修士課程芸術研究科修了。2003年–2004年文化庁新進芸術家海外研修でニューヨークに滞在。現在ニューヨーク在住。1985年に透明プラスチックを成型した「ジャンパー・ジョーンズ」などをつくり始める。1987年より人体を型取りした透明プラスチック製の「下着シリーズ」を制作。その後、自ら制作するミニチュアを用いた写真作品を中心に、ベイスギャラリー（東京）、ギャラリーアウトオブプレイス（奈良）、ギャラリーX日本橋高島屋（東京）、ロバートミラーギャラリー（ニューヨーク）、ホワイトルームギャラリー（ロサンジェルス）等での個展にて発表。2010年練馬区立美術館「プラットホーム2010寺田真由美―不在の部屋展」、2012年ソウル写真美術館「寺田真由美 Living Absence」展のほか、国内外の美術館、ギャラリーでの出展多数。東京都現代美術館、練馬区立美術館、ソウル写真美術館などが作品を収蔵。
